Application Details

It really is a time of changing market expectations as we enter the 21st Century in Australia. Strong competition from international markets, increased pressures for expensive production technology, price competition and quality assurance led management practice promise to reshape the players in many industries. Prominent in these market drivers is the environmental expectations of consumers, governments, the international markets,  financial and risk management institutions and business to business purchasing expectations. The Good Environmental Choice label is designed to help industry realise the benefits of good environmental practice and design making them sustainable and competitive well into the future.

General Procedures for Product Certification
The initial application phase  provides a number of benefits to clients. This phase  is designed to give the producer/service provider an assessment of the product in a general sense and a clear overview of the steps needed to achieve certification for their particular product type. The timeline for this assessment is between 3 weeks - 2 months. The cost is set at $400 (plus GST) per application.
An assessment is undertaken by the program delivering the following information to the manufacturer.
  • An initial indication of whether  the product or service is likely to receive Australian Good Environmental Choice Certification.
     
  • What will be the cost of this evaluation.
  • What is the scientific and other information necessary for the certification.
  • What are the project management procedures to be used for this evaluation.
  • What is the timeframe for this evaluation.
A certification contract and the proposed assessment project plan addressing the above information is issued to the applicant  at this stage if there is merit in proceeding with a full evaluation. 
Evaluation and Project Management

This phase involves the formal evaluation of a product or service for certification. The systematic process may vary based on different product categories but is the same within individual product categories. The stages of the evaluation are:

  • A project management manager is appointed.
  • A project management plan is developed and issued to the client and the project team.
  • The project management plan is agreed to  by all parties.
  • The evaluation templates and schedule  is initiated and undertaken by the project management team and applicants staff.
  • The certification report is prepared  and submitted to the Business Manager for authorization.
  • The client is awarded certification.
The Licensing of a Mark of Conformity

The client upon accepting the certification awarded applies for a license to use the Australian Environment Choice Logo for the awarded product or service. The certified product will then be exposed to one audit during the term of the license which will be  between 2 to 5 year terms based on the product design life.
