  AN INVITATION FROM THE ORGANISERS

We are pleased to invite individuals and organizations with an interest in the development, use and regulations of credible environmental and social labelling systems to participate in The Future of Ecolabelling in Australia conference.

Markets in Australia are responding to the call for sustainable development. The formal implementation of green procurement policies, industry efforts to improve environmental and social outcomes and growing consumer awareness is creating strong market demand for greener products and services. At the same time, the ability of companies to address these challenges and communicate this effectively depends on the availability of a number of triple bottom line tools.

Third party certification and labelling is being promoted by the international environmental and social community as being a fundamental trigger to motivate markets to buy greener and bring rewards to environmentally and socially progressive manufacturers.

Australia has been lagging behind the international trend in environmental labelling and declarations with only a small number of recognised and effective programs. This conference will make progress on identifying the market, structural and regulatory preconditions for credible and effective certification and labelling in Australia.

We invite industry, governments, environmental and consumer NGO's, researchers and managers of ecolabelling programs to exchange ideas and learn from a wide range of sectoral experiences at the conference with the overall aim of ensuring that ecolabelling systems, working within a wider policy context, facilitate a broader community shift toward sustainable consumption and a greater capacity for rewarding progressive companies for taking significant steps toward sustainable production.

We look forward to seeing you at the conference.
