Core Environmental Performance Characteristics |
|
Recycled
Content
The
quantity of recycled material must be significant in order to be
recognised as being environmentally preferable to virgin
materials. There are sometimes limitations to recycled content
use due to strength and other requirements. The levels have been
set as minimum thresholds.
3.2.1 Plastic products defined in categories 2.1 to 2.6 should
have a minimum of 50% of recycled
plastic by weight. |
The products under assessment contain 100% recycled
material. |
|
Post
Consumption
Recycling, Coatings, Labels and other Treatment
3.3.1 The applicant shall accept their product without
additional cost (not including transportation costs) for further
recycling or have arrangements with an Australian plastics
recycler to accept the product.
3.3.2 The recycled plastic product (or component) must not be
impregnated, labelled, coated or otherwise treated in a manner
which would prevent post consumer recycling. Exemption may be
made for products with a long product life where a coating or
treatment would further extend the useful life of the product. |
There is no technical barrier to recycling these products based
on material attributes. ACCO will take back the certified
products and recycle the material. ACCO is currently negotiating
with other companies as potential partners for the product end
of life solution in Australia. |
|
3.4 Environmental Information
To be licensed to carry the Label, the recycled plastic product
(or component) must be marked on each individual item with the
appropriate plastics resin identification code promulgated by
the Plastics and Chemical Industry Association |
GECA has verified that a resin identification code is displayed
on the products by application of a sticker. The company has,
since verification, applied the code to the mould to prevent
removal by the client. |
