Core Environmental Criteria Tested:

Environmental Requirements

Core Environmental Performance Characteristics
Fitness for Purpose Certified products should be good performers in their intended application. Certain standards of product performance are implicit in the label. The Exe, Ozone and Metzo have been certified under AFRDI and copies of these certifications have been received. FreeWay and Sentesi are currently undergoing AFRDI certification. Product quality is ensured under an internal quality control system. In general all the five product ranges are designed and manufactured under the internal quality system which ensures product fitness for purpose and quality.
Timber and Other Natural Materials
Wood and other natural materials from sources that are not certified under a recognised certification scheme as being sustainably managed, shall not originate from: Illegal harvesting & Genetically modified organisms.
The Bevisco Commercial Interiors Pty Ltd product range contains particleboard and some MDF. The main supplier is Laminex (95 to 99%) with some timber sought from D & R Henderson and others. Laminex supply both E0 and E1 boards. Laminex E0 boards are currently certified under GECA and therefore are compliant with the requirements of this criterion. Laminex E1 particileboard that is veneered by Laminex either as Melamine, select timber veneers or Formica product is compliant to this criterion.

Bevisco claims that it has been using Particle board from other sources (like D&R Henderson) only when customer insists on specific colour which is not available with Laminex. The last time Bevisco used particle board from other sources was in May and July 2006. Warehouse at the production site was inspected. All the particle board stored was from Laminex (Formica Vertiboard UF 33mm Flint 3600x1800). The participle board from other sources is used only on rare occasions and is not considered to be included into certification.

Treatment Wood and natural materials used in furniture products must not be treated or impregnated with fungicides and insecticides that are classified due to their hazardous nature by the IARC as Type 1 or 2A. Bevisco only uses domestic product which is not treated for transport.
Glues in Plywood and Laminated Wood
The content of free formaldehyde in glues for plywood or other engineered wood products must not exceed 0.5% w/w.
The Bevisco Commercial Interiors Pty Ltd product range contains particleboard and some MDF. The main supplier is Laminex (95 to 99%) with some timber sought from D & R Henderson and others. Laminex supply both E0 and E1 boards. Laminex EO boards are currently certified under GECA and therefore are compliant with the requirements of this criterion. E1 particleboards cannot be used as part of this certification unless they are laminated as Melamine, Formica or a select range of Laminex Timber veneers.
Air Emissions Products made from wood and other natural products that contain formaldehyde-based additives, shall be subject to the following air emission limits for formaldehyde as measured using the Air Chamber, Desiccator or Perforator test methods. Raw timber and natural materials is exempt from this criterion. The Bevisco Commercial Interiors Pty Ltd products Freeway, Ozone, Exe, Sintesi and Metzo product ranges which are the subject of this report, meet the requirements of this criterion.
Plastics
Plastic identification codes are required upon product lines as per the criteria of the GECA 28 - 2006 Furniture and Fittings Standard.
Bevisco products contain some ABS plastic. Especially end caps (used for round columns) and other plastic parts have no resin codes. After pre-assessment, Bevisco has replaced most of the end caps with metal caps. Few other small components (if they weigh more than 100 g) Bevisco agreed to place resin code stickers on them to facilitate easier identification for recycling. This is a requirement of this certification and the assurance in relation to the placing of such identification marks on plastic products above 100gr in weight is a condition of the licence.

1. CFC, HCFC, HFC or Methylene Chloride shall not be used as blowing agents. 2. Analine based amines, and pigments and catalysis based on mercury, lead, cadmium, and chromium must not be added to the padding material. 3. There is no technical barrier to the disassembly of the Bevisco Commercial Interiors products for further recovery and recycling.

Products collected under the scheme shall not be disposed of in landfill or by incineration.
The product and service warranties comply with the requirements of the standard. BCI product stewardship policies include post consumer recycling and re-use. Options include re-use, refurbishment and recycling of returned content. Bevisco offers an established product stewardship policy for the nominated product line.
Coatings treatment
Products (or components) must not be impregnated, labelled, coated or otherwise treated in a manner which would prevent post consumer recycling. Exemption may be made for products with a long product life where a coating or treatment would further extend the useful life of the product.
