Core Environmental Criteria Tested:
|
Environmental Requirements |
Core Environmental Performance Characteristics |
Fitness for Purpose
Certified products should be good performers in their
intended application. Certain standards of product performance
are implicit in the label.
|
The nominated products meet the
requirements of this criterion
|
Recycled Content
The quantity of recycled material must be significant in
order to be recognised as being environmentally preferable to
virgin materials. There are sometimes limitations to recycled
content use due to strength and other requirements.
|
The Italplast Pty Ltd ranges of
product are made from a minimum of 50% post industrial recycled
plastics sourced from Martogg Group of Companies in Australia
based and the remainder is sourced from internal regrind. The
product range falls under category 2.1 - 2.5, and after the
gathering of evidence related to the intended production
material sources and product production specifications was
deemed compliant with this criterion.
|
|
Recyclability and Product
Stewardship Certified products must be recyclable at the end
of their normal life. For materials that cannot be recycled in
mainstream recycling schemes, manufacturers of certified
products must have an existing product stewardship offer to the
market offering product take-back at end of life for the
certified product range. Products that are taken back under such
a program shall not be disposed of in landfill or by
incineration.
|
The Italplast Pty Ltd ranges of
product do not coat or treat their products with any materials
which may inhibit standard curbside recycling in Australia. This
was demonstrated via factory production inspection and sample
product inspection. There is no requirement for a product
stewardship arrangement for the nominated product range.
|
Impregnations or coatings
The recycled plastic product (or component) must not be
impregnated, labelled, coated or otherwise treated in a manner
which would prevent post consumer recycling. Exemption may be
made for products with a long product life where a coating or
treatment would further extend the useful life of the product.
|
The Italplast Pty Ltd ranges of
product do not coat or treat their products with any materials
which may inhibit standard curbside recycling in Australia. This
was demonstrated via factory production inspection and sample
product inspection.
|
|
Separability
Non-homogeneous certified products must be easily separable with
common tools at the normal end of life to facilitate recycling
of individual components.
|
The nominated products are
homogenous plastic and are manufactured in a single extruded
plastic process.
|
|
Environmental Information
Certified recycled plastic products (or components) must be
marked on each individual item with the appropriate plastics
resin identification code promulgated by the Plastics and
Chemical Industry Association. Exceptions to this criterion may
be made for products in Category 2.8 - flexible sheeting.
|
All of the Italplast Pty Ltd
ranges of product under assessment are marked with the
appropriate plastics resin identification code promulgated by
the Plastics and Chemical Industry Association and thus meet
this criterion.
|
|
Hazardous Substances
|
Italplast use post industrial
recycled polypropylene resin. There is no use of plastics which
are generally associated with this criterion.
|
Overall Loads
In order to reduce pollutant hazards in the disposal,
landfill and/or incineration of end-of-life furniture, the
substances listed in the GECA 28 - 2006 Furniture and Fittings
Standard must not be used.
|
Italplast use post industrial
recycled polypropylene resin. Italplast Pty Ltd manufactures the
ranges of product that are under assessment by using recycled
plastics that are sourced from Martogg which source their post
industrial material from a range of commercial operations in the
Melbourne region. The sourcing policy by Martogg confirm a
strong preference for clean and uncontaminated sources and this
is mixed with clearn regrind from their own operations prior to
dispatch to Italplast.
|
Prohibited Substances
The following compounds, their functional derivatives or
in-situ precursors shall not be added to finished products,
their component parts or be used at any stage of the
manufacturing process, including as preparatory agents, cleaners
or degreasers in the production facility. |
The manufacturing facilities,
their warehouse stock and the standard manufacturing process and
associated ingredients have been assessed. The manufacturing
process does not make use of the above restricted substances and
is comprised simply of an extrusion process. No dyes are applied
to the typial production process. On occasion a black dye may be
added for colour consistency which has been assessed as
compliant to this criterion. |
|
Packaging Requirements
Chlorinated or halogenated plastics must not be used in product
packaging. Used packaging shall be able to be recycled by local
recycling systems. |
The product range is package into
cardboard boxes readily recycled in Australia. |
