Description of the
Technology.
The manufacturer operates in Sydney as a
supplier of adhesives
for a wide range of industrial applications. The manufacturer is a
subsidiary of ICI Chemicals and is ISO 14001 certified as a
manufacturer of industrial adhesives.
2. The Products
The Laminex PVA, Laminex XL PVA subject
to this verification are used for timber applications, in particular
the manufacturer of MDF and HPL coating veneers and consist of a low
toxicity formulation.

Levels of volatile
organic
compounds
Volatile Organic
Compounds (VOC's),
the term used to
describe solvents and
other chemicals in
the adhesive which
evaporate during
use, are main contributors to
adverse air toxicity
pollution. The
amount of solvent
varies across the
different types of
adhesive. Adhesive
products shall
contain no more than
5% in weight of
Volatile Organic
Compounds. |
In a volatile of organic compounds
assessment conducted by a recognised Laboratory, 6 samples were
tested (3 PVA, 3 XL PVA). The results found the range of
volatile are between 1.42% - 3.33%. These levels are below GECA
standards. |
Packaging
The adhesive
package shall be
re-sealable after
first use.
Halogenated
plastics shall not
be used in
packaging. |
The packaging material of the
nominated
National Starch and Chemical products is made of Polypropylene,
and the packaging resalable. |

Exposure
The adhesive in the
state of use shall not
expose consumers to
Carcinogenic
substances in
categories 1, 2A and
2B as classed by the
International Agency
for Research on
Cancer –

A review of MSDS for all
production ingredients for the nominated range find no
carcinogenic substances in category 1, 2A and 2B as classed by
the International Agency for Research on Cancer. |

3. Environmental and Social Regulatory Obligations:
GECA also found the range to
be fully compliant with their obligations under Labour,
Anti-Discrimination, and Safety Regulations. The company
has not been the subject of prosecution in relation to
compliance with labour, anti- discrimination, safety
regulations and environmental regulations.
