1.
Description of the
Technology.
Zaishu is an artistic and high-quality
seating/ stool/ coffee table etc for the commercial and retail markets
in Australia.
The Zaishu has design and manufacturing attributes which
directly reduce the environmental loads associated with
using a product of this type in comparison to like
products available on the Australian market.
2. The Products
The chair produced by Zaishu has been
assessed against the GECA 28- 2005 – Furniture and Fittings
Standard, and awarded with the Australian Good Environmental
Choice Eco-Label.
A Zaishu is a strong, functional, slot
together design chair/ stoll made from plantation grown
veneer and water based inks, paints and varnish.

Timber treatment
Wood and natural materials used in furniture and fittings
products may not be treated with fungicides and insecticides
that are classified due to their hazardous nature by the World
Health Organisation as type 1a and Type 1b for storage and/or
transportation |
The plywood is not treated with any
insecticide or fungicide.

Air emissions
Products made from plywood that contain formaldehyde based
additives, shall be subject to a 0.3mg/l emission limits. |
GECA received
formaldehyde testing by PAA (Engendered Wood Products
Association of Australia) six samples were tested between
February and June 2006, the results are all lower then the 0.3
mg/lt limit stipulated in this criteria. |

Overall Loads The
following substances shall not be added to eco-labeled furniture
during the reproduction process: Arsenic, Cadmium, Chromium,
Copper, Lead, Mercury, Fluorine, Chlorine, Pentachlorophenol
(PCP), Tar oils and (benzo(a)pyrene). |

in the Zaishu chair have been assessed and their MSDS confirm
that none contain hazardous materials as specified above. |

Chemical Additives
Furniture or fittings shall not contain carcinogenic substances
in categories 1, 2A as classed by the International Agency for
Research on Cancer – http://www.iarc.fr. |

Prohibited
Substances Halogenated organic binding agents, poly brominated
diphenyl ether (PBDE) flame retardants ,analine based amines,
phalates, aziridine or polyaziridines as well as pigments and
additives that contain lead, tin, cadmium VI, or mercury. |

that none contain substances as specified above. |

Separability The
eco-labeled product shall be easily disassembled making possible
the recovery and recycling of materials used. |
An inspection of a
sample chair by GECA shows there is no technical barrier to the
disassembly of the Zaishu chair for further recovery and
recycling. |

Product Custodianship The applicant shall
accept their product without additional cost (not including
transportation costs) for further recycling.
|
Zaishu will accept returns without additional
cost. The returns will be reused or refurbished for art projects
or further sale.

3. Environmental and Social Regulatory Obligations:
GECA also found the product to be fully
compliant with obligations under Labour,
Anti-Discrimination, and Safety Regulations. The company
has not been the subject of prosecution in relation to
compliance with labour, anti- discrimination, safety
regulations and environmental regulations.
